How to Be Still

Small Be Still Sign How to Be Still
Only in absolute silence may one come into contact with Divinity itself, or learn of the unchangeable law and open for himself the channels by which persistent practice and concentration lead to God's perfection.

Hopefully you have reviewed most of the content of this website, especially the page: What Does Being Still Mean before continuing.

Take note: What you are about to read are fruits from what has been learned from seeking and knocking on doors.

By Being Still you will have stepped onto the path of becoming "Poor in Spirit"

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven"

Take note: "poor in spirit" not "Blessed are the poor". Many miss quote this passage. It certainly has nothing to do with your worldly 3 dimensional monetary possessions. Being monetarily poor is not to be blessed. There are just as many poor evil persons as there are the evil rich.

To be poor in spirit is to have emptied yourself of all desire to exercise personal self-will, and, to have renounced all preconceived opinions in the wholehearted search for God. It means to be willing to set aside your present habits of thoughts, your present views and prejudices, your present way of life if necessary, to castoff preconceived notions, in fact, anything and everything that can stand in the way of your finding God. (This is an Equal opportunity)

Prelude: Intention

The intention governs the attention. Power comes through repose (calmness or tranquility). It is by concentration that deep thoughts, wise speech, and all forces of high potentiality are accomplished. It is in the Silence that you get into touch with the Omnipotent power of the subconscious mind from which all power is evolved. Your mind is an extension of Gods conscious. He who desires wisdom, power, or permanent success of any kind will find it only within, it is a unfoldment.

The ability to Be Still is not measured in time but in persistence. Meaning that some may get this fast while other
s struggle endlessly. Never give up. Before you start Pray for intention. Ask God for Wisdom. The actual state of Being Still is not prayer. Being Still is God talking to you uninterrupted. Accepting his Waves. The acceleration of this process is measured in Meekness.

Let's begin:

For those who are already familiar with meditative states this will be nothing new. However, not all meditative states start with the intention of uniting with God himself. Remember "Seek and You Will Find". As laws of the universe exist, this law cannot be denied.

Phase 1

You will need to find a place where you can be undisturbed for about 30 minutes. Turn off TV's and PC's. Leave Ipods, Cell Phones, etc in another room. No music. Just silence. It is important that while you are in this learning process that you try to use the exact same place every time. After you have mastered all 4 phases, you will be able to Be Still anywhere.

Find a comfortable chair and sit erect. No slouching. Close your eyes and sit there allowing your thoughts roam where they will, but don't move a muscle for 15 to 30 minutes. Overcome the temptation to move or squirm.

Many will find this extremely difficult, others will do it with ease, but it is absolutely essential to secure complete control of the body before you are ready to progress. This must be mastered before moving on. One week minimum.

Phase 2

In Phase I we worked on control of the physical body. If you have accomplished this you are ready to move on.

In this Phase you will begin to control your thoughts. Always take the same room, the same chair, and the same position.

Now be perfectly still as before, but inhibit all thoughts. Push all incoming thoughts aside. This will give you control over all thoughts of care, worry and fear, and will enable you to entertain only the kind of thoughts you desire. Continue this exercise until you gain complete mastery. One week minimum.

In the beginning you will not be able to do this for more that a few seconds at a time, but this phase is interesting, because it will be a very good demonstration of the great number of thoughts which are constantly trying to gain access to your mental world.

This must be mastered before moving on.

Phase 3

In phase 3, it's time to go one step further. Your are not only to be perfectly still, and inhibit all thought as far as possible, but relax, let go, let the muscles take their normal condition. This will remove all pressure from the nerves, and eliminate the tension which produces physical exhaustion.

Physical relaxation is a surrender of the mind and this exercise will be found to be of great value, as it enables the blood to circulate freely to and from the brain and body. You will become very aware of your breathing.

Tensions lead to mental unrest and abnormal mental activity of the mind as it produces worry, care, fear and anxiety. Relaxation is therefore an absolute necessity in order to allow the mental faculties to exercise the greatest freedom.

Practice this phase as thorough and complete as possible, mentally determine with intention that you will relax every muscle and nerve, until you feel quiet and restful and at peace with yourself and the world.

Phase 4

In phase 3 we learned to relax, and to let go physically. In the final 4th phase your job is to let go mentally. If you practiced the exercise given in phase 3 for fifteen or twenty minutes a day and followed the instructions, you should be able to relax physically. Anyone who cannot consciously do this quickly and completely is not a master of himself. You have not yet obtained freedom. You are still a slave to conditions. Return to Phase 3. Otherwise, you are ready to take the next step, which is mental freedom.

Remove all tension by completely relaxing, then mentally surrender or let go of all adverse conditions, such as hatred, anger, worry, jealousy, envy, sorrow, trouble or disappointment of any kind. Any negative forces must be cast aside.

If you accomplish this you will be in a state of nothingness. You will no longer be aware of your physical body. Clouds of colors will overcome you. You will be immersed in a felling of serenity. This is the secret place. The longer you can stay here the better.

You may say that you cannot "let go" of these things. The reason is because by default you live in the negative circle governed by outside influences or distractions. Your life's journey has hard wired you to be controlled by the emotions instead of intellect.

But those who will be guided by the intellect will gain the victory. You will not succeed the first time you try, but practice makes perfect. In this as in everything else, and you must succeed in dismissing, eliminating and completely destroying these negative and destructive thoughts, because they are the seed which is constantly germinating into discordant manifestations of every conceivable kind and description.

Bottom line: You can Be Still by mentally determining to do so, by voluntary intention, faith, and persistence.

What you find when entering the circle of God is unknown. Every being is unique, precious, and unlimited. At times you may receive nothing more that peace and serenity. A charging of the batteries. At other times visions and inspirations may overwhelm you. Regardless of what you receive from the experience, this entanglement with God and the Universe will give you an entirely new perception of the powers that be.
